Historic Peace Archive Project

The history of the struggle for peace is important for a number of reasons:

  • It counters the prevalent war-based version of history.
  • It helps us understand the hidden assumptions in much of what we think today.
  • It lets us examine other approaches to peace that have been discussed and attempted.
  • It may keep us from repeating past mistakes.
  • It is an important basis for study.

While there is a need for simple, free access to the textual information generated by individuals and groups in the past, there are few resources available. As groups grow, develop, merge, and disband, their contributions are often discarded or deposited in a single location unavailable to most interested people. The Archive seeks to make these materials available to everyone.
